GANFORHIRE

An Enlightened Deepavali

BRIEF

Due to the fact that Deepavali is just a holiday for the minority group, it receives the least attention from businesses. Almost all greetings appear to and say the same thing. They are purple in hue and have a peacock, a clay lamp, or a graphic rice painting on them. Ganforhire aimed to create a Deepavali wish that not only stood out but also reflected and expressed the moral principles and beliefs surrounding the holiday.

SOLUTION

A Deepavali craft posters, “An Enlightened Deepavali”, aimed to celebrate the spirit of good overcoming evil through knowledge, wisdom and courage. We created portraits using coloured rice, which is normally used to draw kolams in front of houses during Deepavali, of Nelson Madela, Mahatma Gandhi & Malala Yousafzai as these people represented the the spirit of good overcoming evil. Each portrait were meticulously drawn out in an A1 size which took us roughly 7-8 hours to complete. These portraits were displayed outside our office as a regular kolam would.

COURAGE OVER FEAR

The willingness to take bold risks is a virtue that lives in every hero. Only sheer determination and valour can pull you through the hard times of fighting darkness. This quality was strongly displayed by the late Nelson Mandela, who spent most of his life to fight for the freedom of his land and people.

LOVE OVER HATE

Mahatma Gandhi’s love for truth and wisdom sparked the most influential civil rights movement in modern history. The simple reason behind his success is because he loved what he fought for, and his compassion paved the way for him. The only way to conquer hearts and fight hate is through love.

KNOWLEDGE OVER IGNORANCE

"Knowing is half the battle.” The quest for knowledge is a fight everyone should fight for. Malala Yousafzai stood for this cause, ready to sacrifice herself for the educational rights of her people. The forces of evil who longed to bring her down may have attacked her in the physical realm, but she knew that wisdom and knowledge were far more powerful weapons.
